Gypsy
fires up Crean - The
Sydney Morning Herald - 12th August 2003
Emelia Gypsy Fire, the actress who danced only with
her hat on during a whirlwind romance with Bob Dylan
in 1986, has been busy taking her hat off for Simon
Crean. Fire, who says she took a liking to Crean while
watching his contest for the Labor leadership against
Kim Beazley, has been firing off emails to the Opposition
leader offering moral support and advice on dealing
with terrorism, refugees, apprentice wages and parking
meters. Under the alias Amelia Girgio, but signing
the emails as "Emelia Gypsy Fire - human rights
activist, spiritual dancing warrior", Fire has
offered advice such as: "Kerry O'Brien was pretty
heavy on you. You handled it well" and "A
bit more I feel of your power from the heart will
be great for you as the planet goes through so much
evil heartache". Crean has answered several emails
with cut-and-paste replies, saying "with your
support . . . I believe I can lead Labor to victory
at the next election". Fire, 57, a Bronte resident,
told Spike: "There's so many things going wrong
- I would love to be running the country. Simon Crean
was the first politician that I took a liking to.
He looked pretty cool on [the ABC show] Australian
Story."

hits her like a bolt of lightning - her heart bleeds.
She is always moving.
Her
courage, brilliance, compassion, spiritual strength,

BOHEMIAN TALES:
The
woman who loved Bob Dylan...
The
first I heard of this Australian gypsy woman'
was written in a reprint of a newspaper article in
a coffee table book on Bob Dylan. As I read the lines
of text I remember thinking to myself, how much
of this tabloid stuff is really true? and this
lead my mind to wonder what ever happened to her
if she was married, or in Buenos Aires so-to-speak
or even still around!
A
few weeks later I was at work - grooving to some 50s
music in my store wishing I knew how to dance to the
stuff - and in walks a lady customer. She looks at
me with these amazingly intense green eyes and fiery
red hair and something makes me tell her what Id
just been thinking. We get to chatting and then James
Brown came on so we talked about dancing and she later
mentions that shes written a book. Anyway, I
finally realised that this was the woman Id
read about a few weeks ago! I ended up buying her
book from her right there in my store - from Emelia
Gypsy Fire. She autographed my copy and then the store
started to flood with customers needing to be served,
so as she left, I asked her to come back and visit
me again soon it would nice to be able to have
a coffee and chat when things werent so rushed.
For
the next couple of days I read the book on the train
between home and work it was the shortened
version of her life between 1996 and 2001. I wont
go into too much detail but I will say that you can
really feel this funny, spirited and gifted woman
I just felt like giving her a big hug!
Anyway,
when she didnt come back to the store after
a few weeks I decided to give her a call shed
left her number inside the back cover to see
if she wanted to get together for that coffee and
chat. I felt so shy because I didnt want to
intrude on her life and it was possible that she may
have put down a wrong number, but I rang anyway
and she answered!!! She invited me over to her place
and I made up a herbal tonic to help her recover from
the bad cold she had. Before I knew it we were sitting
across from each other at her kitchen table
her with a head cold, me with a migraine. She saw
that I was in pain and asked if she could rub some
Tiger Balm into my temples it was then that
I fully accepted how loving and different this beautiful
woman was. And what actually surprised me is that
she managed to make my headache disappear!
Anyway,
shes such a great story teller,
her mind is always active and even though she was
ill, her vivacity and burning life force couldnt
help but shine through - it was almost like the energy
was radiating from her face - is it any wonder that
Bob made efforts to get to know her back in 1986!!!
But Im sure she would be able to tell it better
than me.
She
apparently has so many books she could release but
is waiting for the right publisher to come along
and apparently theres a Dylan book amongst the
already written books. That would be of particular
interest to quite a few people out there!
Anyways,
shes a very open and feeling woman and if youd
like to make contact with her you can do so through

Its
funny how destiny works! What a lovely woman - this
