Sporting commentator Eddie McGuire has taken out three gongs in the alternative to Australia's best-known television prize.

But he is unlikely to celebrate the achievement of winning a TV Fugly Award, a satirical version of the TV Week Logies.

The winners of this year's Fuglies, recognising "the worst that Australian television has offered" over the past 12 months, were announced yesterday.

Mr McGuire, who hosts Sunday night's Logie Awards, won worst male television personality, most overexposed television personality and most biased sporting commentator.

The awards registered 21,381 votes from people over the internet in 13 award categories ranging from "worst television show" and "biggest crying, blubbering male on reality television".

Channel Nine personality Catriona Rowntree was named Australia's worst female television personality and the Channel Ten reality show The HotHouse was voted the worst program in the television show category.

"The awards are not meant to be taken too seriously," TV Fugly Awards creator Anthony Dever said.

"It's all done for a bit of a laugh. I don't want to put anyone out of a job.

"Although, I do feel that some of the awful stuff that appears on television needs to be recognised."

Mr Dever said not all the categories slammed Australian television.

Comedian and host of axed Channel Nine variety show Shaun Micallef was voted most under-acknowledged television personality.

Fugly "winners" are sent an authentic paper certificate to commemorate the achievement of being part of Australian television history, Mr Dever said.

Mr McGuire was not immediately available for comment.
